Jinkies.

Is that not awesome?

Why is it when CGI cartoons are made by small groups of people (Pocoyo) they usually look a million times better than most theatrical CGI movies? It should be the opposite! :[

Man, what a depressing day.

I cant even think of anything worth typing about.

So here's a bunch of (mostly old) drawings made back a while ago.

I am so tired of everything. Ugh.

I bought the horror film "Dellamorte Dellamore" today for a few bucks at a gas station. Hopefully it will be better than the crap I watched last night called "long since dead" which was just....basically Final Destination without the cool stuff.

Haha, I found this old drawing and felt I needed to scan it. Cause it aint half-bad. Particularly compared to the crap I've made since I drew it.

Old design idea for a cartoon I never made. Probably never will. Mainly because it was boring as shit.

The Fantastic 4 as little bean people.

Old Mojo Jojo fanart piece I did. Man I miss this show.

wtf

You cant rollerskate in a buffalo herd.

Painted this in PaintShopPro9 today. Something is royally messed up with it.

I was going to go see 300 today but one of my coworkers quit so everyones schedule got all fucked up so that's no longer an option.

I also drew this green bald chick

And some SpaceGhost art. Man I love how AdultSwim is showing this stuff again. I loved the original 1960s/70s Hanna Barbera shorts and I loved the TV Talkshow. George Lowe is a God.

And here it is:

I threw it together really quick one night quite a long time ago. Which is why its a bit crap.

My pants are on fire! My underwear's on fire! I'M ON FIRE!

Man.

Two job offerings in a week. Not only are these like the first two I've ever received ever, but in the same week? Holy crap! One is from a graphics studio in Manhattan, and the other from a college about 30 minutes from my shack (whom I cant get ahold of).

This is good.
No longer am I a complete failure. Just a mild one. :]

There's some movie on scifi right now called "Cyborg 2" or something. It seems to be attempting to be a rule-breaking experiment in the vein of Stanley Kubrick, except it cant and the thing seems to be another "lets make robots that look like girls so we can do sexual things to them"
It has some gorgeous set design though. And the main character looks like Angelina Jolie and Natalie Portman fused into a singularity. Hot? Yes.

There's also a dude in this movie who looks like a cross between Tom Kenny and Quentin Tarantino.

Weird shit.

Also I drew some crap:

A college called me today about a job offer.

We bring ze verld new order!

I get to work a lovely 8-hour shift tomorrow with someone who hates everybody.
Aint it great?
Part of me wants to just not go at all. But then I'd lose my job and have to go and get NEW job at a NEW crummy establishment where I get to act like I'm a retarded robot all day.

But today was my day off, so I managed to get quite a bit accomplished.
I even managed to scribble out and scan some drawings today.

^
I dont know what or why or who those are. Just an amalgamation of weird disproportionate characters and things all mushed together.

And then I redesigned Mario.

Redesigning video game characters is always fun.
God knows why.

Ghost Rider sucked rather hard btw. The first half of the movie was great. And then Blackheart came down. And rather than being some badass demonic entity, he was just some emo kid in a trenchcoat who looked like he dropped out of the casting call for some Blade ripoff.
Very disappointing.

Tideland came out.
Saw it. Was knocked out. What a fucked up, yet brilliant film. Noone makes a movie like Terry Gilliam. And that is why he is awesome. Who else can make a movie about a family of heroin addicts who move to the country, the parents die of an overdose, and the daughter becomes the girlfriend of a retard who dreams of blowing up trains while his bee-hating mother performs 'services' for delivery men.
Fucked up. Yet vastly entertaining.
My favorite film of his, next to, of course, the majestic Baron Münchhausen which I could watch a million times and never get tired of.

I saw Open Season yesterday. It made me sad. :C

Still working on the Joey cartoon. I get the feeling its going to suck, like the rest of my sad little repertoire of flash animations. I just gotta keep thinking about the prize money.

Flash Drives are the greatest things ever created.
And in case you haven't heard, MP3 is dead.
Its not dead now. But it soon will be.

Mark my words. In a year or so, we're all gonna be using OGG VORBIS files instead.

There's a storm a-comin'

Tornado in a trailer park.

If I ever become a grizzled old animation veteran who does little other than yelling at others and preaching about why everyone has made the industry suck all day...I hope some young punk comes along and kicks me in the nuts.

Seriously.

Has the internet gone INSANE?

Thursday, February 22, 2007

Fine, brush your own teeth. We're going to eat our juicy starburst in our wetsuits.

Been working on the Joey flash for the Ilaugh short film contest.
I am quite pleased with how it looks thus far. Trying to cram in as much frame-by-frame type animation as I can while not making it the focus or letting it take away from the silliness and "jokes" if I can call them that. "Gags" might be a more accurate description.

Either way its funny (to me at least, which isn't saying much) but hell, if it gives me a chance to earn some decent cash and maybe get out of this hole I'm in, I'm gonna make this the best thing I can possibly muster with craptastic mouse-drawing skills.

Speaking of....

Behold this strange senseless drawing I slapped together while watching Ghost in the Shell:

Equivalent Exchange.

Well.
No email in my inbox.

Which means I didn't get the job I was going for.
So, once again, here I sit.

They brought back the angry old manager at my job. A woman who does little other than snapping at people all day and acting as if everyone around her is to blame for all her problems.
It was brilliant move by the district manager. Get rid of 2 good managers, and bring back the crummy inefficient angry one. WHAT ARE THE FLAWS IN THAT?

So until I can ever get a better job, I am stuck closing nights with her.
Wonderful.

I lost a rare chance to get a job in the animation industry, AND I get to hang out with someone who detests me as much as I detest her. And I have no money again. Things are coming up daisies!!!

Lets see if I can somehow do this Joey cartoon well enough so I can win 25,000 dollars and not be such a complete fucking failure at life.

In happier news, I made a happy bean man.

In better news...hmm. Cant think of any. Getting kicked out of my house soon as well. Forgot about that. I'll have to go live with my father, I suppose. I cant afford a new place.

But this weekend is Mike and John's birthday celebration.
Gonna go out with them, see Ghost Rider, and probably get disgustingly drunk.

Yep.
I havent slept in 3 days.
I suppose my best bet now is to make a portfolio of my crap, send it to cartoon network, and see if anyone out there is interested in hiring a crappy flash animator.

Wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube man!

I actually managed to get the courage to apply for an animation job on a television show today!

I am becoming less of a wuss!

Hoorraaaaaaayyyyy

Also, I painted me some clergyman guy person dude thing.

I actually kinda like the way he came out. His hands look kinda messed up, but not enough to detract (is that a word) from the rest of the image.

The guys who made Billy and Mandy are working on a new show called Chowder.
They posted a pic online. It looks colorful and deranged. Huzzah!
Oh hey I still have a delicious ice-cold grape soda next to my keyboard!

Garbage Pan Banana Noodle

I think I'm going to stop trying to get any good at painting.
My best painting thus far is the one with the girl with the weird smile holding all the guns right up towards the camera. Now, I cant get anywhere near that quality anymore. No matter how hard I may try. And this thing with me constantly trying to make something as great as it, and failing, has lead me to believe that painting was a fluke.
Some sort of wondrous blessing that occurred by accident. And each time I try to make anything anywhere near as good as it, is destroying what little self-esteem I have in my own crappy art.
So, as I said, I'm gonna stop.
My skills haven't gotten any better, and neither has my art really.
Its depressing.
Anyway, in my boredom I painted some sort...of.....I dunno. It's like a haunted balloon monster or something. I don't know. I don't care.

As you can see, he has found himself a lovely hat to wear.
God I hate my job.
Florida seems to have the rudest customers imaginable.
People need to learn to chill.

Just think of them as tiny horses.

Time to do the taxes.

I hope my check from the Government is larger than usual.

I could reeaaaalllllyyyy use it rather badly.

Also, I have rediscovered the frustrating fun that is I-sketch.
Its best when playing with a group of old buddies as opposed to random folk you dont know, I've found.

For those unknowing, I-sketch.org is a lovely internet game. Like a lan-party game of Pictionary.

It runs all in Shockwave (flash's bigger less-used brother) and is really very fun.

Also.
Robot ghosts.

There's quite a few free online games out there. Hundreds, in fact. The majority of them are boring "Root Beer Tap" or "Bust-A-Move" type games that hold little interest for me.
But there are some fantastic ones out there as well.
Soldat, Linerider, Pocket Tanks, Falling Sand Game, Samorost I and II, Drakojan Skies, and a few others.
All good fun.
There was even a game alot like Worms that featured cute little chibi people riding tanks, animals, and all sorts of stuff making turn-based attacks on each other. I can barely remember what its called anymore, but boy was it fun.

Rumors are surfacing that Wal-E might be dialogue-free.
That'd be fascinating. Like how Triplets of Belleville was dialogue-free.
Either way, we wont know until the movie is done in 2008+

Story time! Story time! Yay!!!!!!1

Last night at ohhhhh about 1:30, me and my good pals Mike and Raphael (whom we call Ese) parked behind the Beach Gameland Arcade in Clearwater, Florida.
Seeing as its only about 45 minutes away from Tampa, we frequent it often.
So Mike parks his car. We head to the arcade. But guess what? Its closed. They close earlier now (for no discernible reason). So we head over to the beach. Now there is currently a cold front here. Its very cold and rainy. We hang out on the beach and at the big hotel called "Shepards" or something.
We head back to the parking lot.
And the car is gone.
We looks around. Nothing.
Turns out some towing company (Kowatski's Towing or some shit) had towed Micheal's car DESPITE it not being parked illegally. We got this info from the cops because Kowatski's didn't answer their phone any of the 13+ times we called them.
So.
5 miles and a couple of hours of wandering in Pinellas, over the enormous bridge to Clearwater, in the freezing rain, looking for these people, we finally find them. Asleep. Inside their fucking Tow Truck.
150 bucks. 100 for the Towing fee and 50 dollars in complete bullshit charges.
And of course, they dont take debit or credit. So now we need to find an ATM machine. Raphael and I were too tired by this point to argue with these people so we just sat on the ground freezing and panting and Micheal followed one of the Tow Truck guy's vague instructions to the nearest ATM machine.
20 minutes later, Micheal has yet to return. And of course, the ATM was out of money. So he had to wander around town asking hobos for instructions on where there were ATM machines.
Finally the Tow Truck guy drove off to find Mike, they went to an ATM, Mike handed him 150 bucks (which is a bit more than half of the total amount we get on our measly Blockbuster paychecks), we got into the vehicle, and drove off.

A horrid, HORRIBLE NIGHT.

Oh yeah.

And someone commented (a rare occurrence) in my last post thing here about the Diner I described in my last post.

Here is how you get there.
Get on Dale Mabry highway, and head towards the Stadium that the Bucs play in. You will pass the Diner on your right. There is a huge red neon sign that says "DINER" and the place itself is slightly past the sign. Its called Pop and Sons.
I might go there later tonight for some fewd.
Deeeeleeeecious feeeewwwwwd.

and I made a mushroom painting.

MEAT GRINDER on YouTube.

I made it small on the page of the blog thing here so that it runs smoothly, even on a pc as craptastic as mine! \o/

Nothing much to report on.
Thinking of combining the idea behind Squaresville and combining it with my friend Mike's comics into a tv show idea. Maybe pitch it to a few people. Dunno.

Anywayz.

King Zarkon needs that Neumonian now!

Man.

I am bored when I'm not working on flash.
I mean...I got no projects I'm working on for once. Every thing's done and my 3 new toons were accepted well so yeah.

I am free of cartoons.

Yup.

Yessiree bob.

Yeppers.

Man.
What did I used to do before I discovered flash when I was bored?
Did I do anything? Sheesh.

Well either way, tonight me and my good chum Mike decided that we needed a new place for fooding it up.
So we stopped by a little Diner down near USF.
And its literally a Diner. Its even called "DINER" with a big red sign.
We stepped inside what looked to be a very small building, looking roughly as small as a Waffle House.

MUCH bigger on the inside. Beautiful place. 1940-50's esque Diner. Brown carpet floors. Tiled ceiling. Small booths. A bar. Hanging plants. Little ceramic statues. No annoying music playing. Just the sound of the grill.

A nice lady greeted us. Blonde, around 60 I'd say, white shirt with ruffles, and a red apron. She greeted Mike and I, we sat in a booth, she handed us Menus, ordered some root beer.
Wonderful stuff in the menu. Sandwiches, Burgers of all shapes and sizes, lots of breakfast dishes.
Mike being the neurotic creature he is, asked her what to recommend.

"The burgers. We have the best burgers in Tampa."

So I ordered a half-pound cheeseburger with mushrooms and fries. Classic meal thats lost its zest due to fast food reptitiveness.
But it can still be good.
And man, was she ever right. The burger was not served on a bun, but instead on an oval roll. Like a hoagie, but soft and salty. 2 burger patties were placed side-by-side with a healthy heap of fresh sliced mushrooms and cheddar cheese melted on top. A little bit of mayonnaise spread on the top bread, and a few light squirts of ketchup.
Good glory, it was delicious. I had watched her prepare the veggies. Fresh EXTREMLY RED tomatoes, fresh onion, lettuce and fries.
And then she recommended a slice of the carrot cake I had been eying since we'd walked in. It had been baked that day. Which was obvious because it was warm with cold custard frosting and DAMN was it good.
And this place is open 24 hours a day.

Oh yes.
Me and Mike have definitely found a new place to food it up.

As you might have guessed, I am in a good mood.
I FINALLY got my money problems solved temporarily. Got my checks deposited. Sitting on roughly 1000 bucks which should last me for quite a bit.

Anywho. I am off. Lol noone reads these. :I

Cowabunga

Oh the late 80's and early 90's.
How I miss thee.
Your ridiculous overabundance of action movies.
Videogames that were 2d and usually involved shooting.
Good cartoons on TV.
Stupid fashion sense.
And music that reminded me to "Dont Copy That Floppy"

But one of my favorite things always as a child was the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Action, adventure, comedy, obscenely expensive costumes filled with machines, puppetry, and actors ready to collapse of exhaustion.

The teenage mutant ninja turtles also got me into comics. Savage Dragon, Hellboy, Star Wars comics, etc etc. I think I still have "Star Wars: Splinter of the Minds Eye" somewhere in my room.

So as you can imagine I am UBER-STOKED that there is a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie coming out. And extremely stoked that the animation is stylized and comic-book-like.

I'd never drawn them before, so chances are I got the character design a bit inaccurate.

Now. It is too late. This path you take. Dont want to be a memory.

Ironic. Or just a coincidence?
The day after I complete 2 important flashes. Sliver, a cartoon I started two years ago which was going to be my masterwork, and Meat Grinder which actually IS my masterwork; the day after I finish these, I am out of money.
My account balance is zero.
So here I am in the dark. Waiting for Monday to arrive so I can deposit my paycheck. But until then I get to sit here in the cold, hungry as hell, typing to whatever random person is visiting this pitiful little bowl of horse shit I call "art"
At least my money didn't run out before I finished my flash.

So thats about it. Back to square one. I hate my fucking job. So much.
But my car at least has a full tank of gas.

2:46 am.

Also I think I broke my foot yesterday. It made a rather nasty crunch sound and has been hurting very badly since then. Particularly when I walk and drive.
So I have been hiking. Which has been somewhat therapeutic.
Sitting underneath overpasses late at night with my friends chatting about stuff and listening to cars pass by overhead.

ilaugh.com is having a contest.
Top prize wins 25 grand.
I had these fantasies about using the money to buy myself a Cintiq tablet. But I've come to realize that even if I were funny (which I'm not) and had even a slight chance at winning (which I don't), the money would get eaten by my school and student loans. I'd still be in this hole.

But at least the computer is warm.
I think I'll go steal some oranges off of my neighbors tree.

It'd be improper of me to leave off this angry blog post without a drawing, so here's some crap I drew.

I am actually kinda pleased with this drawing.
I think I will make it my desktop backround.

Heh.

Pixar finally released the first image of their new film. No, not the one with the rats. Wall-E. God only knows what its about. But the first image they've released its very dark and gritty. A change of pace perhaps for Pixar? Who knows? I like the wee robot though. Reminds me of those robots that people build that fight each other in competitions.
This is being Directed by the guy who directed Finding Nemo, which was by far Pixar's most emotional and heart-wrenching film. So I gots big hopes this will be good.

Rocket magazine was talking about The Adventures of El Superbeasto which will be Rob Zombie's new movie. Rob's movies are always great. And from what I've been reading he's got some guys from Spumco and Spongebob animating it. If the first pics from the website are any clue, this will be an awesome adult cartoon. Please, god, please let this go to theaters. Wouldn't that be great? An adult animated film in theaters? One that people will actually go see!

Also, I drew an owl.
He is rather owly.
He wants you to GTFO.

Thats no hydroxyl ion! Thats my wife!

Tonight in my boredom, I drew me up four felines. A quartet of cats. A pack of pussies. I am out of analogies.

You dont know what we may find. Why dont you come with me, little girl, on a magic carpet ride.

I just had the most awesomest dream.

How often does that happen eh? I'll tell yah, almost never.

And when I woke up, I jumped out of bed, realized I had to make this dream into a film somehow, opened flash, and scribbled some crappy drawings out in a couple of minutes.

So here they are.

as you can see these drawings are crappy as hell (sheesh look at the hands) but at least now I've ensured I will remember this dream.

A beard is not a replacement for a jawline!

I bought the Animation Show dvd today!
I am filled with joy. And poop.

And I am also posting screenshots of my new flash project.

(click the pictures for slight bigger sizes)

I missed the Animation Show when it came to Tampa last year.
This year it isnt even coming down here.
I'd have to get to Georgia to see it.
:[

This cartoon will probably be the best thing I've made. Also by far the most violent. But man, am I enjoying drawing it. Especially on this fast PC I uploaded it to which I get to use for free!

Every time a bell rings, an angel gets its wings.

Happy new year.
And such.

Last night my old friend John W took me, Nim, and Raph to a party in Brandon city.

Much drinkage of raspberry bourbon, gold-shlauhger, rum, and Clearsta then occured. I also got to see some boobs. So it was a fun night.

Of course, all things have their consequences. I feel like shite this morning, and its raining and gloomy outside. I get to close the next two nights which is really going to suck. Tuesday shifts are the worst shifts. Monday's are slow, thank god. I need time to rest my brain.

My new flash animation of the working title "Meat Grinder" is coming out splendidly well. The few people I have shown it to are all in agreement that its the best thing I've ever done, and that its scary. Which was my intention.

I was hoping I would get it done before the year was over. But here it is, january 1st, and I am only nearing the end of the first Act.

I've hesitated working on it recently. I am at a rather difficult scene that I honestly need to keep perfect. Its a rather icky scene, and I am still juggling ideas about how best to get it done so that it looks good and doesn't drag on and manages to be as shocking as I hope it will be.

My local sports team, the Bucs, were looking for a flash animator. I sent a resume type of thing, but I got back one of those automatic emails "thank you for your interest etc" so lord knows if the person looking for the animator will ever see it. I suppose there must be a few other flash animators here in the Bay Area. I mean, logically, there must be at least a few.

cheesecake for breakfast.

always a good thing.

my friend Tom got drunk last night as well at a different party. and proceeded to insult us over the phone and tell us Joey was his one true friend. which shows how drunk he was as Joey abandons Tom rather often whilst the rest of us haul him about.

Bleh.

Crime is a shit that needs wiping up.

"The time has come," the Walrus said,

Of cabbages--and kings--
And why the sea is boiling hot--
And whether pigs have wings."

Merry Freakin Christmas

(Its Scrooge)

Friday, December 15, 2006

My spoon is too big.

Today was my day off.
So I got some shit done today (rare occurrence).
I got my Paypal account rejuvenated, got my money from it into my bank, set up a google adsense account and customized my blog a bit.

I found a bunch of great old music videos from the good days of cartoon network on youtube. Jabberjaw, Josie and the Pussycats, Ed Edd n Eddy: Incredible Shrinking Day, My Best Friend Plank, etc etc.
It makes me sad to see them now. Other than Ed Edd n Eddy, all the classic Cartoon Cartoons are gone. Dexter's gone, Johnny Bravo's gone, Cow and Chicken, Powerpuffs, Courage, everything.

Being the lover of these I am, I've managed to track down the majority of the brilliant minds activities online. I think everyone likes to know what their heroes are doing during quiet times like this. Genndy's part of the Orphanage, McCracken is making Foster's, Feiss is on Billy and Mandy, Dilworth made a new film on his crazy website. I just dont know where Van Partible went. Maybe he went back to being an animation professor.

Adult Swim has been showing FlCl every night this week. I've been staying up til 5 am each night just to catch it. Wow and now Voltron is on. Man. FlCl is such a beautiful fucking show, and seeing Voltron, the thing I watched religiously as a kid, on tv again? Icing on the entertainment cake.

But its 5:30 am and I need to sleep.
If anyone is reading this, thanks for listening. Good night.

And have a picture:

I'm so happy with this image. If my portfolio ever stops sucking, it will be thanks to that picture.

Aint just whistlin' Dixie.

I fucking hate driving. I loathe it. Its the most shittily designed thing since the human knee.
There is NO fucking reason why I should have to drive in a massive circle for hours every day just to hope for the offchance that at some point during my loop, there will be a gap in the traffic wide enough to squeeze through and get into the parking lot.
I cant deposit my paychecks because of this shit.
Its ridiculous. The whole fucking roadway system is based on luck. Its no wonder there's so many god damn accidents. We only put traffic lights at intersections. Not on off-passes, turning lanes, acceleration lanes or anywhere where they are needed. Only at intersections to ensure the most inefficient system imaginable.

Its ridiculous that after driving in a straight line for 45 minutes on my way to work I have to then cross 3 lanes of neverending traffic to get into the parking lot. And that the system is timed so badly that the line of cars doesnt end for a good 10 minutes or so.

Its ridiculous that for 3 fucking days now I have been trying to deposit my tiny measly paychecks into the fucking bank next to the fucking walmart. But lo and behold there's only 2 entrances and they are both covered by a constant stream of cross-traffic.

Its fucking ridiculous that the turning lane just before my college has no traffic light for the turning lane. Its the kind where you just drive into the middle of the intersection at 100 miles an hour in the hopes you can get to the other turn lane before the traffic from the other side gets its green light and blocks you.

The whole system fucking sucks.
It's disgusting.

Great Success!

Well I learned today that my buddy Mentally Detached has made practically nothing from his albums despite my music videos to his songs. (I think most of my flashes are music vids to his songs nowadays).
So that sucks.
But I drew Borat.

I haven't made a good flash cartoon in like....forever.
I'm just dead in my brain. Little to no creative impulse to make anything.
I started a new cartoon today. Leave it to a song made by Mentally Detached to finally inspire me.
Well, that and watching a marathon the other night of horror films. Nasty ones, too. Hostel, Saw, Rijet, and others. I didn't sleep much but man I enjoyed it.

I wish my brain was more like TV's Kyle or Andrew Kauervane, or Jeremy Lokken. They just seem to come up with this endless stream of great gags and creative ideas. Maybe I should try to turn one of my comics into animation.

Kachow.

Some sketches of character designs for a game.
Very early concepts.
But a very cartoony game which is right up my alley.
The game is designed by Tyler Glaiel who runs his own popular game website and seems to have no end of innovative game ideas.
Anywho,

And here's some other stuff from long ago.
Old pixel art and whatnot that noone ever used.

I bought Cars last night.
The monster at the end of "Mater and the Ghost Light" is one of the coolest things I've ever seen. Its like every peice of construction equipment ever made amalgamated into a huge beast.

Felt like drawing myself and it led to this thing.

He is Olie, you are Sven.

Drew a little post-apocalyptic zombie kid.
JUST IN TIEM FOR HALLOWEENZ.
enjoy?

Friday, October 20, 2006

It's be mean to the king day. And its lots of....fun.

Halloween approaches.

And a ghost I have made for the occasion.
Seeing as this is technically a sketch blog, I need to upload some dang sketches.

I also put some old pencil tests on youtube. If you want to see them, look for em.

Anyway, ghost.

Will my text wrap around this or will I be able to to get this to work for once?
Holy crap its working.

Lemme upload another sketch then.
It be a zombie!

I am a pleased peice of pie.
