A cat that could play? A mouse that could waltz? GOOD HEAVENS

Nothing to say here. Seriously giving consideration to quitting my job at the video store. Apparently we wont get paid extra for having to work the holidays this year.
Which for some reason our company is open EVERY DAY EVER including christmas and new years even though noone comes in on those days. Plus our new manager is being a massive dick as of late and slowly everyone is quitting. Since the change in staff, everyone has had to do alot more work, with no incentive. We havent had a raise in years. We still get paid basically minimum wage. We still have to wear expensive khaki pants while doing the equivalent of janitorial work. And the worst part is that the new managers have lumped all their duties on the employees so they can hover around all day making sure we're complete and total asshole salesmen to each and every regular customer who comes in just wanting to chat about what movies are good this week. It's driving business away. Which considering how many stores they shut down, is sort of the opposite effect of what they should want.
But this company has always been run like shit.

On a happier note I've been working for weebl for roughly a year now I think. I think thats a pretty special occasion. Still the best job I've had so far is working for him. Much better than my video store clerk job. It's a real hoot.

I'm definitely going to make myself a new PC soon. I'm tired of having my online games look like this:

Speaking of team fortress (one of the few games i play regularly that isnt kirby or puzzle game related) I drew an amusingly terrible piece of art of some of the games characters.

However not all the art I've drawn this week is terrible! Some of it even approaches the lofty goals of 'meh'!

Behold the tripod creature thing.

And finally, the best thing I've done recently. A drawing of the criminal / hoax that is the Mad Gasser. A person (or persons) who poisoned people in the 1940's with an insecticide-shooting flit gun.

And thats all there is.

I went down like a rag doll as you would, child

Mike had a big party last night at his apartment. Everyone was there. Even Joey. Even Eric was there, who flew down from Chicago to visit his brother or something. The night beforehand Mike took a whole watermelon and diced it into many small cubes. I bought some lime vodka and poured it into the bowl all the melon cubes were in. They soaked overnight in his fridge, absorbing all the vodka.
Needless to say, they were quite tasty. Best party favor ever? I think so. Mike managed to cram about 20 people into he and Alec's apartment.

Alec showed me the new Monkey Island game that came out, which was wonderful. Limited 3d stuff done just right to give the game that wonderfully cartoony hand-painted look. Same oddball sense of humor. Then he showed me the re-release of the original Monkey Island game which was completely redone from its old 16bit art into fully painted graphics with voicework and everything.

Then everyone passed out. Being a nightbird myself I played Team Fortress 2 for like 6 hours until everyone was up again.

A good night.

Six days ago Cartoon Network did the first good thing it's done in a long long time.

The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack was released on DVD. For those who live in caves, eat rhinos, and yet have internet access....Flapjack is one of the best cartoons on TV in quite a while.
The story of a young optimistic and way-too-affectionate boy, his best friend who is a drunken blue pirate malcontent by the name of Captain K'Nuckles voiced by Bill Murray's brother, and his mother, an affectionate and adoring but tough whale named Bubby.
The show is brilliant. Not only in that its animated wonderfully (the amount of insane poses and visual magic onscreen is great to see) but the characters are so endearing. Rather than simply have them be flat, they actually have personalities.
You end up feeling SAD for K'nuckles because everything in his life has gone so wrong and made him such a hostile curmudgeon, you get to see Flapjack experience the dark horrors of the real world, you get to see Bubby break a few of her own rules for self-gratification.
Its great. It straddles that fine line between 'cute' and 'horrifying' and enjoys jumping it often.

Cartoon Network, for whatever reason, doesn't put out DVD sets often. I'm still shocked they put the Powerpuff Girls on DVD, considering the show was like a decade old (and thus worthless by television exec standards).

So to see a show that's still brand-spanking-new get special treatment is really quite a nice change of pace, and hopefully helps the show continue to do well.

To celebrate I did a painting of the characters as best I could.

A few months ago Mike went to Metrocon here in tampa dressed as the Spy from Team Fortress 2. We made quite a few masks for him to wear at the convention. And I was the official mask holder. A shameful job.
It turned out to be a big hit. Or as big a hit as a character based on an obscure american pc game could be in a convention full of people crossdressing as Sephiroth, Cloud, and other awful Squaresoft characters.

Anyway, QUITE ALOT of pictures were taken of Mike, but alot of the funniest ones (or ones I thought would be funny as hell anyway) never seemed to leak online.
WELL YIPPEE KAY YAY MOTHERFUCKER, they are online now.

Here they are.

The first image is Mike hiding amongst several Chobits cosplayers. Chobits is a mange by CLAMP (aka The Lanky Moe Brigade) and the story is about a guy who finds a robot girl who has no personality and gets turned on both physically and electronically when he fondles her. She can only say one word. Another shining example of how fucked up Japan can be at times. And how little they value women in the media. Hijinks ensue.

Here is Mike with a Sailor Moon mask. Behind Mike to the left you'll see an absolutely wretched creature. Usually a rarity, the "Neckius Beardamus" or "Geek" tend to come together in large herds wherever animation, comics, or videogames are present in quantities superseding the demand. This particular one is of latin descent (note the moles). Its name is (or was) Nathan Malone and as you can see by this image, and the look on its face, it was contemplating suicide at the point this photo was taken. It was later shot and made into dog food. The dog then died.

But at least now you all know that when I draw myself as a big fat hairy guy who looks dead inside, you know I draw the truth. LOOK UPON YOURSELVES WHY DONT YOU. IT IS UNTO YOURSELVES YOU SHOULD BE LOOKING.

Also for those of you who live near Steak n Shake here in the south, you need to try their guacamole burger. It is great.

In other news, Billy and I are still looking for a site to sponsor our little game. Of all the sites we sent it to, the only ones who actually gave us feedback was a nice person named Robin over at gimme 5 games.
So I think we're going to have some good luck over there.

Gods are selfish beings who fly around in little red capes and don't share their power with mankind.

Mike moved into his new apartment.
Its very apartmenty. We went there and I tried some weird rum I'd never had before. Then he, me, and Jack had some very thin cigars on the balcony.
Its a very nice place.

Being nacho connoisseurs, we have discovered that pouring a whole bag of this stuff onto the chips before we apply the various cheeses and spices really gives the chips a delicious juicyness. Moreso than refried beans or chopped cilantro have.
And its got a bit of spice to it as well.

If we had some Caribbean jerk seasoning they would have been perfect.

The cartoon I am making for weebl and skoo marches on. Over the last few days I have animated a man having his face torn off, thrown, splattered on the wall, with his eye disconnecting on impact and landing in a martini glass.
Obviously I'm not going to post the whole swf here, since its a job, but I can show you this little bit here.

This will probably be the most gruesome thing I've done since Meat Grinder some 3-odd years ago.

For those who have ever wondered how low i have to make the settings on this older-than-the-internet pc, here's a couple of screenshots of what Team Fortress 2 looks like for me. If you are someone who normally plays on high settings with HD skins, you may want to avert your eyes:
(no my steam name isnt that funnyclown thing you see in the top right. just another engineer)

go ahead and full screen these to get the full effect (sans reggie).

Note: even on these settings I'm lucky if I get 20+ fps on this thing. Hence, I often have to play classes that dont rely on aim as much, like soldier, engineer, pyro, medic.
Somehow I manage to do decently. Go fig.

I've gotten to see two very STRANGE but very enjoyable films these last few days.
The first was a movie called Goliath by The Zellner Brothers.

Its a dramedy of sorts about a guy who's life is going to shit. He has no friends, he just got divorced, was embarrassed at a funeral, and got demoted at his job and has to hang out with his coworkers who harass him and call him 'bitchtits'
Yet he's pretty ho-hum about it all. Its not until he sees the horrific death of his beloved cat, Goliath, that he snaps and decides to unleash his anger against the local neighborhood sex offender.
Gave me a good few chuckles and has a very heart-wrenching climax.

_________
___________

The other film I saw was THE HAUNTED WORLD OF EL SUPERBEASTO, by Rob Zombie. Very loosely based off the comic books of the same name.

This may be one of the filthiest films I've seen. Like seriously. I've read Robert Crumb, and seen some of the most hilariously sick anime that leaks out of the dark corners of Japan, I've seen enough smut, porn, and snuff movies to last me a lifetime (especially snuff). But wow this movie is just overloaded with perverse things. And all the sick stuff in it is played for laughs. Thank you, Rob Zombie.
Has a spumco/billy+mandy/spongebob/looneytoons sort of look to it. Very fluent, lots of crazy facial expressions. And despite being an american adult cartoon, its animated really really well. Smooth. It also has Paul Fuckin Giamatti (worlds greatest actor) playing Dr.Satan in it. Which makes me a very happy chappy. And the icing on the cake is that it also has some very good music and songs throughout. It also has NAZI WEREWOLVES!!

Sea of fire. Mountain of needles.

An awkward last few days. Brother in prison. Father depressed.

I've been working on a cartoon for Weebl and Skoo. Based on skoo's ideas. But I get to do it in my style.
It was short and horrifically violent. But they've given me permission to make it as long and insidiously gory as I want.
I'm going to have fun with this.

In other news, the game ARTHROPOD will soon be released.

Arthropod as none of you will recall was a shooter game that me and my friend Billy Monks have been working on.

some old concept art

and eventually what turned out to be the final design:

This game has been through alot ALOT of changes and alot of drama.
Originally it was going to be a huge sprawling adventure of multiple levels. But time constraints and playability issues made it wise to simply release the game in several chapters.
Chapter one is done. The game is done. The last few days I've spent making background art assets and waiting for my friend Lenko Biscuit to finish recording the dialogue for the game.
Once the dialogue is done, that's it.

Billy will take some bids on sponsors for the game, and then it will be released. Where I will then whore it to as many people as I can.

I can say for certain having played it myself, that anyone who enjoys good old fashioned arcade-style shooters (1942, R-Type, Ikaruga) will enjoy this game. We got a catchy techno soundtrack, some lovely upgradeable weapons, and a nice hard boss. Actually the whole game is pretty damn hard, as a shooter should be. Not Touhou hard or anything.

But hard enough where you WILL die. But its also a game where you learn how to get better and eventually kick some ass. Which is good. I hope it reaches past that hurdle of internet gaming that goes by the name of "Pretty Good for Flash"

When its done it will be called Arthropod Armada and you'll be able to post the results on a high-score table on Facebook apparently.
